Edouard de Beaumont
19th century
(Lannion, 1821 - 1888, Paris)

Edouard de Beamuont is frequently classified as a slightly frothy version of Gavarni, an illustrator of pretty girls and high-life scenes that found their ideal audience in the upwardly moile Jockey Club member. Son of a sculptor who worked on several restoration projects including that of Versailles, de Beaumont initially studied with Antoine Félix Boisselier, who taught drawing at the Ecole du St. Cyr in Versailles. He was also a watercolorist and helped to found the Société de Aquarellistes Français in 1879.
