(Bordeaux, 1827 - 1886, Nogent-sur-Marne)
Lalanne was one of the founders of the Société des Aquafortistes, contributing seven prints to the albums they produced from 1862 until 1867. His seminal treatise on etching, Traité de la gravure à l'eau-forte, originally published by Alfred Cadart in 1866, again in 1878 and then translated into English in 1880, helped continue the etching revival for several decades and over two continents. Before Lalanne's volume appeared in print, artists consulted Abraham Bosse's treatise on the subject based on Jacques Callot's techniques and published in 1645.
