Cain studied at the Camberwell School of Art and after his return from the World War I attended the Royal College of Art. At the conclusion of the war, he stayed for a year longer in Baghdad where he had been stationed. Well known as a landscape and marine artist who exhibited his work at the Royal Academy and at the Paris Salons, his views of Mesopotamia, India, and Burma were among his most favored.
