Franz Anton Maulbertsch
(Langenargen am Bodensee (Germany), 1724 - 1796, Vienna)
Franz Anton Maulbertsch was the greatest painter of his time in Vienna and south Austria. In 1765 he was at the height of his powers and success. His major projects of the period included complex allegorical ceiling paintings in the bishop’s summer residence at Kromeríz, in the Castle of Halbturn, his first imperial commission, and in what became the Hungarian Embassy in Vienna.
