16th-century Sienese
(Sienna, 1563 - 1610)

Francesco Vanni and his stepbrother Ventura Salimbeni are considered to be Siena’s most important exponents of the Early Baroque. Throughout the 1580s, Salimbeni worked on papal commissions in the Vatican and the Lateran. By 1591 he had his own workshop where he embraced etching, producing prints revealing a strong interest in Barocci.
