Federico Zuccaro was the most celebrated artist in Rome during the pontificate of Clement VIII. Important an intellectual as well as painter, he established the Accademia di San Luca in 1593 and in 1607 published L’Idea de pittori, scultori, ed architetti, the period’s most coherent statement of artistic theory.
