All-over detail and the combination of marking techniques is characteristic of the tradition of reproductive lithography. Adolphe Mouilleron worked from a painting by Karl Bodmer, using a second stone called a tint stone to add background color and depth, and the full range of tone in black and white to produce the effect of an oil painting.
