Jesùs Escobedo was a member of the Taller de Gráfica Popular [People’s Graphic Workshop], a socially and politically engaged art collective. Drawn in a bold graphic style, this lithograph, as well as “Mujer dormida,” focus on the human figure depicted at work and at rest. The composition of “Cargador,” cropped to make the laborer’s flexed arm the primary focus, emphasizes the potency of physical labor.
