Alberti was a prolific engraver, as well as a leading painter of decoration, in late-century Rome. This print is one of a series that reproduces six of the twelve Prophets and Sibyls in the pendentives of the Sistine Chapel. Their immediate inspiration, including choice of subject and format came, however, from Giorgio Ghisi’s grand series of a few years earlier.
