This etching was a late meditation on the life and activity of the artist. Amid humble surroundings, the fire in his foundary colling, an old craftsman seems lost in thought, one hand patiently striking an anvil, the other gently encircling a statuette of Charity. The small size of the print and the special warmth of this impression enhance the sense of extraordinary tenderness.
