Rendered in duets of space and solid and combining elements of painting and sculpture, Egyptian Motif is characteristic of Alexander Archipenko’s often complex investigations of the human figure. This work is an example of the artist’s later Cubist style: sharp angles and planes have been softened, creating lines that curve and flow from shape to shape.
The artist's status as an artistic bridge between eastern and western traditions is borne out in this work, which presents the ancient Egyptian image for female royalty as subject for modernist innovation.
