De Jonghe was a prominent printseller in Amsterdam. Although he did not publish any works by Rembrandt, he assembled a large collection of the etchings. His inventory was the first catalogue of the artist's work. While this impression was printed after numerous changes to the plate, it is still beautifully varied in tone and suggestive in expression.
