Della Bella's compositions are developed with the insistent rhythm and rich atmosphere of full Baroque painting, and they are articulated with a busy, lightly bitten line that gives them the appearance of delicate pen-and-ink drawings. Executed in the first years of a sojourn in Paris, his Camels is an especially swift and delightful sketch. Etchings by Della Bella are relatively common, but rarely seen in early states or such fine impressions.
