The Annunciation illustrates the moment when the Angel Gabriel tells the Virgin that she will bear Christ. Images of the Annunciation allude not just to the promise of salvation through Christ’s incarnation, but also to the Virgin’s humility and power to intercede. Just as it was through her that God was made flesh on earth, so too could a devout person get closer to God.
