Private Chamber is a flat rectangular canvas with a painted finish similar to the walls of an ancient ruin. It has two niches into which wood carvings are placed––one a sort of totemic figure and the other a conglomeration of abstract geometric shapes. Like that of Gonzalo Fonseca, Bonevardi’s work evokes a mysterious ancient world that is the source of a collective consciousness or a fragment of a parallel reality. The spaces in Bonevardi’s works suggest in their absence the mysterious or unknown, resembling architectural elements such as arches, doorways, and sculptural niches.
