Trained in France with family members, settled in Rome by 1717, Parrocel specialized in the production of altarpieces. His style is related to the late Baroque classicism of Carlo Maratta and later Pompeo Batoni, but distinguished by a more deliberate measure, delicate color, and clear light that are recognizably French. Certainly preparatory, although for a project awaiting identification, this study is a grand example of his command and subtle inflection of academic draftsmanship.
