Crépy reproduced Watteau’s six designs for the faces of a folding screen. Aside from the inscription on the first of Crépy’s plates, there are contemporary references to the screen. Although it has been identified with a number of works appearing at auction in the nineteenth century, these etchings remaining the best record of Watteau’s inventions.
