This print demonstrates the immediate success of the reproductive technique employed by Rubens’s engravers. The original painting is by Gerard Seghers, who was a prominent contemporary of Rubens in Antwerp. Pontius employed the same system of engraving and effects in reproducing Segher’s painting as he did in translating Rubens’ works to print.
