Miereveld was an accomplished portrait painter known for his sincerity in capturing a sitter’s likeness and his harmonious use of color. Artist circles at this time were notoriously tightly knit; if apprentices were not already blood relatives, they usually married into the family. Miereveld’s son-in-law engraved his portrait.
