after 1579
16th century
24.6 cm x 25 cm (9 11/16 in. x 9 13/16 in.)

Workshop of Luca Cambiaso (Moneglia (Genoa), 1527 - 1585, Madrid) Primary

Object Type: drawing
Artist Nationality: Europe, Italian
Medium and Support: Pen and brown ink with brush and brown wash over traces of graphite
Credit Line: Blanton Museum of Art, The University of Texas at Austin, The Suida-Manning Collection, 2017
Accession Number: 2017.985

In this replica of a drawing in the Louvre, the central group of Abraham and Isaac ascending the hill is displaced slightly to the left, and the figure of Isaac is unbalanced. The artist's hand is slower in essential description, like the contours of the figures in the foreground, but impatient in secondary areas, like the left background. While probably still autograph, this would have been the latest of the three replicas.

Possibly by Paggi (Jonathan Bober 5/13/11)
