Caletti was a minor Ferrarese painter inspired principally by Guercino. His etchings are delightful in their witty characterization, bristly description, and delicate biting. They are, however, quite rare and little known to this day. Steinberg took special pleasure in discovering and pursuing such distinctive but unfamiliar personalities. There are four other etchings by Caletti in the Collection.
