A year after Watteau’s death, his patron Jean de Julienne conceived a project to reproduce all of the artist’s paintings and drawings in a corpus of engravings and etchings. The young Boucher became a principal in the project, executing 119 of the 351 plates that appeared in two volumes in 1726 and 1728. A tribute to Watteau’s genius, this etching was one of the few original designs.
