In 1949, he moved to San Antonio, and then joined the faculty at The University of Texas Art Department in 1952. He held a full professorship from 1970 to 1989. His modernist style was strongly influenced by Cubism and Surrealism. Frary also had a keen eye for architecture, and loved to treat it with a blocky and reductive geometry, as he does here. Locally, he is best known for his watercolors and his devotion to the theme of the Texas landscape, as in his series Impressions of the The Big Thicket, Watercolors of the Rio Grande, and Impressions of the Texas Panhandle, each published as books by The University of Texas Press and Texas A&M University Press.", "Dedication" : "Blanton Museum of Art, The University of Texas at Austin, Gift of D.D.
